Hagerty Seminar Series: Join us for a free valuation seminar

Insight, expertise and advice from the experts of the classic car hobby

The first rule for collector car enthusiasts is to buy what you love and what you’ll enjoy driving. However, collector car values and the economy have evolved over recent years — but not always in the same direction. What should you be buying? How do you assess the value in your existing collection?

Join Matt Stone, renowned motor journalist and commentator for “Barrett Jackson on SPEED”; Dave Kinney, founder and publisher of The Hagerty Price Guide; Rob Sass, New York Times contributor and publisher of Hagerty Classic Cars magazine; and moderator George J. Notaras, host of MotoMan, for a free panel discussion on the state of the hobby.

The Automobile Driving Museum in El Segundo, Calif., will host the two-day program on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 3-4.

Saturday, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

  • The economy is down, but car values are rising. What’s going on in the hobby today?
  • What are strong buys in today’s collector market?
  • Q&A
  • Bonus: Our panelists will provide insight into the hobby from their own experiences. Cataloging the hobby is their day job, but they too have had the one that got away. Matt’s had everything from Maseratis to Mustangs, while Rob loves cars that may be charming but have a tendency to leave him on the side of the road. And Dave’s “one” just made a rather unbelievable surprise return.

Sunday, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

  • Small Cap, Mid Cap and Large Cap don't apply only to large companies
  • Panelists’ buy, sell and hold recommendations in each segment
  • Q&A
  • Bonus: Time for some fun: Our panelists will defend each other’s buy/sell/hold picks in a “Lightning Round.” The panelists’ tastes run from obscure and British to Studebaker and Loewy, so it should be a very lively discussion . . .

Tours of the museum (located at 610 Lairport St., El Segundo, CA 90245) and lunch will be available both days following the panel discussions. Join us on either day or both for an informative and entertaining weekend. Admission to the seminar is free, and admission to the The Automobile Driving Museum comes with a suggested donation of $5. Seating is limited to the first 200 to each session. Click here to register for Saturday's session, and click here to sign up for Sunday. (To reserve your spot for both days, please register for each session separately.)

I purchased a 1956 Thunderbird with all of the power equipment that was original and in the same family for the past 56 years. It is a lot of fun learning about the car and making some modifications for reliability and comfort (air conditioning) along with a large radiator and different fan. The car gets lots of attention and everyone loves the Peacock Blue color. Would like to learn more about this car, and other collectible cars to purchase. Terry.
