"Ask Hagerty"

The "Ask Hagerty" Concierge Service is available to your clients when they join Hagerty Plus. The Concierge answers questions on topics ranging from where to find rare parts, to what oil to use with certain engines, to how to get collector cars into movies.

Here's an example of a typical question and answer:

Q: I am looking for help finding the correct air filter for my vehicle. I am preparing for a big show and want to make sure nothing is incorrect, please help.

A: I examined your engine photos and the air cleaner specifies "396 cubic inches" and "325 horsepower." According to the Cars & Parts Magazine Catalog of American Car ID Numbers 1960-1969, at the right (passenger side) front of the engine block, there should be a code indicating whether this is a 396/325 engine. For manual transmissions, codes may be JA, KG, JV, KI or possibly CJA. For an automatic transmission, codes may be JK, KH or CJK. Three letter codes mean it is a 402 engine, marketed as 396. Your code is JA and build date is March 11, so it looks like this one is correct.
