Pro-Hobbyist Custom Vehicle/Kit Car/Replica Legislation Approved by Tennessee Legislature; Moves to Governor for Signature
Tuesday, April 15, 2008

The Tennessee State Legislature has approved legislation to create a vehicle registration and titling classification for custom vehicles.  The bill defines a custom-built car as a vehicle that is built for private use and is not constructed by a licensed manufacturer or remanufacturer.  Under the bill, kit cars and replica vehicles will be assigned a certificate of title bearing the same make, model and year designation as the production vehicle it most closely resembles.

We Urge You to Contact Governor Phil Bredesen (Contact Information Below) Immediately to Request His Support for S.B. 2729

• S.B. 2729 provides a specific registration/titling class for customs, including kits and replicas.

• S.B. 2729 provides that a replica vehicle will be assigned a certificate of title bearing the same model year designation as the production vehicle it most closely resembles.

• S.B. 2729 provides that custom vehicles owners will be provided a title that identifies the vehicle as a replica.

DON’T DELAY!  Please contact Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen immediately to urge his support for S.B. 2729
