Ready for the Hagerty Family Car Show

Hagerty is a proud sponsor of the 2008 National Cherry Festival Hagerty Family Car Show. The July 6 event will once again take place on the Hagerty Campus, located at 141 River's Edge Dr. in Traverse City, Mich.

Last year's event showcased hundreds of fine collector vehicles and an estimated crowd of 3,000 spectators.

This year, the show will host a recently restored General Motors Futurliner, an extremely rare vehicle designed by Harley Earl in the 1940s. The 12 buses were manufactured by General Motors and used for their "Parade of Progress," which toured the United States through 1956 to demonstrate advances in modern technology. The 33-foot long Futurliners contained jet engines, microwave ovens, television sets and many other rare advances in technology for the time.

In 2006, another Futurliner was auctioned off at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction for over $4 million. The other surviving buses have been converted to private motorcoaches or other types of promotional vehicles.

Also featured this year is Hagerty Plus' Youth Judging Program, which will allow kids ages six to 12 unprecedented access to cars and their owners, with the goal of cultivating in them an interest and respect for collector vehicles.

The show is open to anyone wishing to exhibit their collector car, truck, motorcycle or boat. Registration is from 8 to 11 a.m., and there will be goodie bags for the first 150 entrants. The show is open to the public from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the awards ceremony starting at 3 p.m.
